10 months!

Mr. E turns ten months old today (ok, I'm a little late again)!!! He's an amazing little guy who's changing before our eyes. After about a week of figuring out the crawling thing, he was flying across the floors. He pulls himself up on everything and has gotten pretty good at cruising and pivoting between the couch and the coffee table.

A couple of weeks ago, we were hanging out in our family room and letting him roam when I looked up to find him on the second step of the stairs. With me behind him, the guy climbed up the entire flight of stairs, laughing the whole time. It's now one of his favorite activities - stair-climbing and laughing - and one of our favorite activities as well.

He finally learned how to wave and clap. And when we put music on or he plays with some of his musical toys he bounces and waves both hands in the air - he's quite the dancer.

He started swim lessons last month and at his most recent lesson he flipped over and floated on his own. I am so very impressed with the swim instructors and their commitment to infant swim safety. I encourage all parents of 6-month-olds or older to check out this course or one like it. I hope he never has to use his skills but I know that what he's learning could save his life.

Still no true words, though there are lots and lots of 'dadadada's and rarer 'mamamama's. And whenever the television is on or one of us is on the phone he wants to be a part of the conversation, yelling and babbling as loudly as possible.

He's still drooling like it's going out of style. Just this week, one upper tooth has poked through and another is on its way, which will make a grand total of 4 teeth for the little guy. It's hard to tell whether teething is bringing on any fussiness or fever - we've had a few little illnessess but still his disposition is generally sunny.

I know I say it in every update, but this kid is simply the happiest child ever. He has a smile (with a dimple) for everyone, and he laughs constantly. He is just the light of our lives. We're so very blessed.

Zoo with grandma

We've had such a busy last few months with no end in sight. A few weeks ago, while Mr Leaven was out of town, E and I took grandma to the zoo to show her the animals (ok, actually grandma first took me to the same zoo almost 40 years ago so she does know her way around a bit).

We had a wonderful time looking at the sea lions and the monkeys and lots of exotic animals whose names I can't even begin to recall. Admittedly, he was more interested in the leaves he could pull off the plants next to the exhibits, but my mom and I had a great time finding the animals hiding in the corners of their cages.

E took his first carousel ride and was very excited to ride one of the up and down animals. Oh, and we tried out the little petting zoo, which E is going to love when he's walking on his own.

Happy Mother's Day!

Hard to believe that I'm actually a real mother of a real, live baby boy this year!

The Leaven family, my brother and his family, and our mom & dad met up at Ruggles Green today for a lovely Mother's Day lunch. Thanks to the foresight of my wonderful sis-in-law, Jessica, we got the last table available at a very busy restaurant.

I'm really digging the kids' meal options at so many great restaurants. I got a salad for me and a burger/sweet potato fries/drink for $5 for the kiddo - and a 10-month-old doesn't eat much more than a few sweet potato fries, so I satisfied my burger craving and got the delicious salad to boot.

dude, that child's portion is incredible!

The huge lawn for the kids to play before/during/after the meal was ideal. Jack and E both loved playing on the lawn, and Joe had fun getting all the baby attention that he and E always draw.

the place was hopping!

getting these 2 boys in a photo together is not the easiest thing ever.

my boys! so handsome!!

Auntie Jessica, what big eyes you have.

What big teeth you have, Auntie Jessica!

Yay! Fries!!!

Three hot mamas. No, we didn't coordinate the outfits beforehand!

Kisses from my little guy

Happy Mother's Day to me!!!

Happy birthday, Sophie!

Catching my breath while E takes a little nap. It's been a whirlwind last few weeks with no signs of stopping till 2031 or so (when baby #2 turns 18 and we kick her out of the house...). Mr Leaven is in Seattle this weekend. E and I planned to go with him but E was running a fever Thursday night and we decided it was best if we stayed home. He's been in great spirits this weekend, with a few moments of pathetic-ness and some unusual sleep patterns, so I'm glad we opted to stay back. Mr Leaven is having a wonderful time with the boys, if Instagram is any indication.

Last month we got to go to Wonderwild to celebrate cousin Sophie's third birthday! The kids had a blast running, jumping, sliding, and climbing. E wasn't yet pulling himself up on everything like he is today, but he got to crawl around the toy area and gnaw on quite a few balls and dinosaurs. His cousin Jack was there too, so we got a few moments of cousin bonding time. 9-month-olds are not that interesting to 3-year-old toddlers, but when chocolate cake is involved they can usually be motivated to sit and pose for a photo or two.

That slide was faster than expected! E isn't sure what to think!

Dinosaurs, Mom!

Cousin Jack and Uncle Kevin catching some air

Levi is one day younger than E and was teaching E a thing or 2 about pulling up and crawling (and sharing).

Love this photo of Aunt Jess with the birthday girl. And her dinosaur.

Yum. Fruit salad.

Jack posing for the camera.

Sophie is probably looking for her dinosaur here.

I love that grin.

Cutie patootie.

Sophie and, you guessed it, a dinosaur.

You boys better keep your hands off T-Rex.

Double yum. Chocolate cake.

Uncle Kev with a baby boy who skipped his morning nap.

I love trying to take pictures of multiple kids together.

Happy birthday, Princess Sophie! We're so glad we got to share the day with you! I promise E will be more of a playmate one of these days!!!
